Darcy’s Old Wares in Lucknow is celebrating 15 years of business this year! And in its 15 years the shop has established itself as one of the biggest and best old wares shops west of the Blue Mountains.
Kerry Condon, proprietor of Darcy’s Old Wares, has been a keen collector since he was 17, and started buying a few antique pieces, doing them up and selling them as a hobby. It wasn’t until 20 years later that Kerry decided to open a shop in Lucknow.
“We basically started with 3 or 4 tables and a couple of wardrobes,” Kerry said, “and today we have approximately 10,000 items!”
Darcy’s has also seen a host of celebrities visit since it opened in 1994, including Australian rock singer Angry Anderson, country music singer John Williamson, Mark ‘Jacko’ Jackson, Artie Beatson and Chopper Read.
Darcy’s Old Wares has seen thousands of items come through its doors, including old red phone boxes, petrol bowsers, early clocks, china cabinets and pinball machines.
“When new people come into the store they are amazed how much we have,” Kerry said.
85 percent of customers are travellers, however all people in the local community are great, and everyone is encouraged to come back to the store.
